Research Assistant (Computer Analysis)
We are looking for highly motivated and analytical individuals to fill the Research Assistant (for Computation) positions.
The appointees will support various research projects within the Division of Life Science by conducting computational analyses. They will work closely with graduate students and/or research staff within the Division. This will be an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself into an inter-disciplinary field that brings together information technology with biology. Duties include analyzing data sets using existing open-source tools; developing and deploying custom-made scripts or programs that integrate with other tools; maintaining good records of the analyses performed; and attending project meetings as needed.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Applicants who have interest in the field of life sciences would be highly preferred. Knowledge of Linux-based systems and shell scripting; additional programming skills including Perl, Python and R.; and good organizational skills with an appreciation of software engineering practices are essential. Familiarity with the administration of Linux systems including troubleshooting software installation, deployment and execution would be an asset. Working knowledge of Deep Learning/Machine Learning algorithms will be a plus. The appointees should be independent with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave and medical benefits (where applicable) will be provided.
